Fort Bend volunteer opportunities
Volunteer Fort Bend has announced the upcoming volunteer opportunities in Fort Bend. For more information on these opportunities, please call at 281-340-1919.
Local mentors are wanted at the Katy residential facility for children who have suffered from abuse or neglect. The facility is looking for people with good rapport with boys between the ages of 11 and 17, who will come in once a week on weekdays between 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The volunteer will interact with one boy in shared recreation and friendly conversation. Volunteers should be at least 21 years of age.
The United Way is looking for Meals-on-Wheels drivers to bring good nutrition to homebound senior citizens. They'll be delivering hot lunches to these low-income shut-ins to aid in their independence and provide them with friendly conversation. Meals will picked up at a Katy location on the driver's choice of weekdays.
Childbirth educators are needed for women going through unplanned pregnancies. Women who have been through labor, particularly those with certification in childbirth education, can provide an ongoing series of childbirth classes to clients, covering topics such as trusting in the pregnancy, labor processes and the options available in managing labor. Sessions are available weekday mornings, afternoons and evenings in the Katy area.
Volunteers are needed to help low-income families achieve home ownership. Those interested will provide general construction help for a housing program serving Katy and neighboring areas. No background in construction is necessary. Training is provided. Morning and afternoon shifts are available on Saturdays.
Additional opportunities can be found at VolunteerFortBend.org.
