Rice University alumna and student chosen as Marshall Scholars

Rice University senior Kareem Ayoub and Rice alumna Jessica "Jecca" Steinberg are among the 40 students named Marshall Scholars this year.

The Marshall Scholarship allows American students to pursue two years of graduate study at any institution in the United Kingdom. Scholars are selected on the basis of academic merit and leadership and ambassadorial potential.

Ayoub, a Katy resident, will use the scholarship to complete a Master of Science in neuroscience at Oxford University and a Master of Research in experimental neuroscience. He is currently a Century Scholar majoring in bioengineering.

Steinberg, who graduated from Rice in 2010, will use the Marshall Scholarship to pursue a Master of Science in global health and development at University College London and a Master of Arts in health management, planning and policy at the University of Leeds.

An Act of Parliament established the scholarship in 1953 to commemorate the humane ideals of the Marshall Plan.
