Katy High School student earns Rotary scholarship
A Katy High School student was named third-place winner in an area-wide essay competition sponsored by the South Texas Rotary District 5890.
According to a press release, Ashley Pendergrass received a $500 scholarship for her efforts.
The first-place winner was Kevin Leba of Cypress Woods High School. Leba received a $2,000 college scholarship for his essay about how today's business and political practices would benefit from using the Rotary's four-way test of ethical behavior. The test asks if an action is true, if it will build goodwill and better friendships, if it will be fair to all concerned, and if it will it be beneficial to all concerned.
The second-place scholarship of $1,000 went to Micaela Canales of Quest Early College High School.
All of the recipients were taken to an awards luncheon with Rotary District Gov. Rhonda Walls at the Bellaire Southwest Rotary at Braeburn Country Club.
Eligibility for the annual award is limited to graduating seniors who are members of their high school InterAct clubs.
