Changes to busing policies and an increase in lunch costs topped the May meeting of the Katy Independent School District School Board.

For the 2012-2013 school year, the board approved increasing the distance of busing eligibility from three-tenths of a mile to half a mile for elementary students and one mile for junior high and high school students. Buses will continue to be provided for students for whom a hazardous condition may exist between home and school.

Lunch prices districtwide will see an increase in the fall. New prices are: elementary lunch prices will increase by $0.10, from $1.80 to $1.90; junior high prices remain the same at $2; and high school lunches will increase in price by $0.25, from $2 to $2.25.

Other action taken by the board included the hiring of Heather Williams, current assistant principal at Odessa Kilpatrick Elementary, as the new principal for Stan Stanley Elementary.  Williams has been with Katy ISD since 2008 and has 15 years of educational experience. The board also received the School Health Advisory Council's annual report, which included a summary of the group's four meetings during the past school year.

June meetings for the board are June 11 for a study session and June 18 for the next regular meeting. For more information about upcoming meetings and policies, call 281-396-6000.
