Katy ISD to offer AARP Driver Safety Course

The Katy Independent School District is hosting an AARP Driver Safety Course on July 16.

The class will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in room 1030 at the KISD Education Support Complex, located at 6301 S. Stadium Lane (next to the Merrill Center) in Katy. Participants should enter at the staff development entrance.

The AARP Driver Safety Course is a four-hour classroom refresher for motorists that provides a review of driving skills and techniques as well as strategies and tips to help drivers adjust to normal changes that may affect driving ability, helps identify the most common crash situations, reduces chances of having a crash, updates drivers’ knowledge and understanding of today's roads, vehicles and other road users and helps people think about how to drive.

A completed required coupon and a $5 check to AARP must be presented upon entering the class, and no cash will be accepted. This includes all class materials and a workbook for each participant. Upon completion of the course, most companies may offer auto insurance discounts.

An educator appreciation promotion is also being offered to people who have been an educator or have worked for a school district or university in any capacity, including custodians, secretaries, aides, preschool teachers, professors, guidance counselors, band directors, school nurses, Sunday school teachers, cafeteria workers or parents who homeschooled their children.

Preregistration is required, but membership is not required to participate. The limit is 25 students. Coupons may be printed from www.aarp.org/educators. All participants must have a current driver's license. To register, call the KISD Community Education at 281-396-6365.
