Katy alum pitches scoreless frame in SeaWolves loss
Jared Michael Gayhart, is a 2005 graduate of Katy High School, pitched a scoreless inning but watched as the Erie SeaWolves fell 7-4 to the Trenton Thunder in minor league baseball action on Wednesday.
Gayhart played one season at San Jacinto College before transferring to Rice. In two seasons for the Owls, he batted .322 with 10 home runs and 89 RBI, while also going 2-1 with a 1.93 ERA in 10 career relief appearances on the mound.
He was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 13th round, 403rd overall, of the 2008 Major League Baseball draft.
So far in his career, the pitcher has a combined mark of 11-13 with a 3.55 ERA and 150 strikeouts in 162 innings advancing as high as Double-A Erie of the Eastern League.
