Gayhart strikes out five in SeaWolves 9-7 win over New Britain
Erie SeaWolves pitcher Jared Michael Gayhart struck out five batters and allowed three earned runs and four hits in three innings in a 9-7 home win over the New Britain Rock Cats on Friday, June 8.
A 2005 graduate of Katy High School, Gayhart played for San Jacinto College in 2006 before transferring to Rice.
In 2007 and 2008, Gayhart batted .322 with 10 home runs and 89 RBI in 119 games while also going 2-1 with a 1.93 ERA in 10 career relief appearances for the Owls.
The Detroit Tigers drafted Gayhart as the 403rd pick in the 13th round of the 2008 Major League Baseball draft.
Converted to pitching exclusively by the Tigers, Gayhart made 99 appearances, 95 of which were relief outings, during his first three professional seasons from 2008 to 2010 with a combined mark of 11-13 with a 3.55 ERA and 150 strikeouts in 162 innings. He has advanced as high as Double-A Erie of the Eastern League. Gayhart was born in Houston on Oct. 29, 1986.
