Police investigate fatal accident on Katy Freeway

One person died in a car wreck that occurred around 7:50 a.m. June 22 at 19250 Katy Freeway.

According to a press release, the victim, a 51-year-old man, was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences is still in the process of verifying his identity.

The release gave the following account of the incident as reported by HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sgt. C. Park and Officer Y. Estrada: the victim was headed eastbound at high speed on Katy Freeway in a black Nissan Armada when he allegedly rear-ended a parked Ford F-550. The F-550, a Texas Department of Transportation-contracted water tanker, allegedly had its hazard lights turned on and was blocking the lane with a traffic cone. The victim was airlifted to Memorial Hermann, where he later died.
