Katy roller rink, day care blamed for child's broken leg

A mother is suing after, she says, a local daycare and a Katy roller rink failed to provide proper care for her 9-year-old daughter's broken leg.

Sarah Lara, on behalf of her 9-year-old daughter, filed a negligence lawsuit on July 31 in Harris County District Court against Gold Medal Kids, doing business as Grandma's House Child Care, and Skate City U.S.A., doing business in Katy as Bear Creek Roller Rink.

Lara says on June 4, Grandma's House Child Care, without written consent, took her daughter and other children on a field trip to Katy-area Bear Creek Roller Rink. The suit alleges that during the field trip, Lara's daughter fell and broke her leg, but day care and roller rink employees failed to provide the girl with medical treatment or contact her mother until hours after the accident.

By the time she arrived at West Oaks Urgent Care, the severely broken bone pressed on her skin and caused nerve damage, according to the brief. Lara claims an ambulance transported her daughter from urgent care to Texas Children's Hospital, where she underwent surgery to set the broken leg.

Lara is seeking damages and court costs. She is being represented in the case by Houston attorney Alan Kolodny.
