Local students take home two awards at National Junior Achievement Company of the Year event

The Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas team won two top awards at a Company of the Year competition in Washington, D.C.

Competing against 15-19-year-olds from across the U.S., the group snagged top honors for the event's FedEx Access Award and the Social Media Award. The Southeast Texas team, called Undefined, consists of five Houston students: Carol Huang, Jessica Wu, Henry Harnold, Olivia Wright and Andrew Manashi. Though attending different high schools in Katy, Alief and Fort Bend, the students came together through the Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas program at the Houston Chinese Community Center.

Undefined produced, marketed and sold their own t-shirts, Chinese knot ornaments, bracelets and other jewelry. The FedEx jury decided their business plan showed the best potential to create jobs and grow over time. The Houston students exemplified the best understanding of global access following a group of FedEx assessment sessions to snag the shipping company's award.

"It is so amazing," said Jessica Wu, President of Undefined, in a press release. "We really appreciate being rewarded for all the hard work we put into developing our company and our products."

In winning the Social Media Award, the team produced a clip for Facebook and YouTube consumption that garnered the most likes out of all student entries.
