Katy Taylor releases varsity football schedule
Katy Taylor High School has released its varsity football schedule for the upcoming season.
After picking up just a single win in the 2011 season, the Mustangs, under the guidance of fifth-year head coach Flint Risien, look to return to playoff form right from the start, when they take on Houston Cy-Fair in the season opening contest for both schools at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at Rhodes Stadium.
Taylor will travel to Klein High School's Memorial Stadium 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, and host Conroe Woodlands College Park High School at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, in non-district games.
After an open date the weekend of Sept. 21, the Mustangs open District 19 play when at Houston Strake Jesuit's Crusader Stadium in Houston at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28.
Rhodes Stadium will be the site for five of Taylor's final six contests, including district games in Weeks 6 to 8 against Katy Seven Lakes High School at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4; Katy High School at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12; and Katy Cinco Ranch High School at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20.
Week 9 will bring the battle of the Mustangs to Tully Stadium in Houston as Taylor meets Houston Memorial High School at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26.
Taylor will return to its home sidelines of Rhodes Stadium for its final two regular-season contests, against Katy Morton Ranch in Week 10 at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, and the Senior Night season finale against Katy Mayde Creek High School at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9.
Should the Mustangs get back to the balanced attack and tough defense displayed in 2008-10 and once again qualify for the postseason, the first round of the 5A Region III Texas state playoffs would begin the weekend of Nov. 16.
Taylor plays its home games on artificial turf at the 9,768-seat Jack Rhodes Memorial Stadium, located at 1640 Katyland Drive, in Katy.
