Local recruit completes U.S. Navy basic training
Local Navy fireman recruit Megan L. Thompson has completed her eight week basic training regimen at Great Lakes, Ill.
Thompson is the daughter of Lauretta L. Jones of Katy and Pearlee H. Thompson of Houston.
During the program Thompson completed a variety of training including classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival and shipboard and aircraft safety. Her training also emphasized physical fitness.
Her capstone of boot camp was a battle stations exercise that gives recruits skills to succeed in the fleet by focusing on the attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance, according to a press release.
Thompson is the sister of Miya L. Thompson also of Katy. She is a 2007 graduate of Cypress Spring High School of Cypress.
