Thomas A. Glazier Senior Education Center September classes
The Thomas A. Glazier Senior Education Center has announced a number of upcoming September classes. Classes are free and open to Harris County residents 55 years old and older. Registration must be completed before participating in any classes or events. "Senior Boot Camp" will be available from 9-10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 3; Thursday, Sept. 6; Tuesday, Sept. 11; Thursday, Sept. 13; Tuesday, Sept. 18; Thursday, Sept. 20; Tuesday, Sept. 25; and Thursday, Sept. 27. "RAD for Seniors," a self-defense course for senior women, will take place Tuesday-Thursday, Sept. 4-6 and Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 10-11. An informational session on credit reports and reverse mortgages will be held from 11 a.m. to noon on Friday, Sept. 14. A digital camera class will be offered from 1-3:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 17 and Wednesday, Sept. 19. Dr. Louise Hates will lead a class on brain repair, memory and emotional health from 1-3 p.m., also on Monday, Sept. 17. The Better Business Bureau will lead a health care fraud-prevention class from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18. From 1-3 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19, a class is available on Internet safety for seniors. On Thursday, Sept. 20, a square dancing event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon and a class on cooking with herbs and spices will be available from 1-2 p.m. The Better Business Bureau will lead "How to Hire a Repairman" from 1-2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 21. A Homeland Security presentation on hurricane preparedness will also be held from 1-2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 21. A fall card-making class is open from 10-11:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 24. Dr. Louise Hayes will return for a brain repair class entitled "Restore Movement" from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Sept. 25. A class on accessing online library databases will be held from 10-11 a.m., and a course on the 10 signs of Alzheimer's will be from 1-3 p.m., both on Wednesday, Sept. 26. On Thursday, Sept. 27, a class for iPad and tablet instruction will be from 9-11 a.m., and Dr. Freytag will discuss nutrition for seniors from 1-3 p.m. Classic Cinema will present "The Postman Always Rings Twice" with Lana Turner and John Garfield at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 28. Those attending should bring lunch or snacks for intermission. The Thomas A. Glazier Senior Education Center is located at 16600 Pine Forest Lane in Houston.
